Good website copy is as important as the visuals. Maybe even more so. Writing that isn't clear, is too lengthy, or confusing, can lead to a higher exit rate on your website.
Conversely, good copywriting spurs your visitors on to browse through your website. There is an old advertising saying... "The more you tell, the more you sell." That just isn't the case on a website. It's much better to be concise. People are busy and will just skim large blocks of copy, rather than reading it. Break the text up with bullet points and play with spacing.
Be as clear as possible. Don't go overboard with flowery adjectives. And don't overstate the benefits of your products or services. You want to earn trust. Be both persuasive AND honest.
Tell your own story. Pull readers in and help them emotionally connect with your brand. by including a brief bio and a photo of yourself. Say something about what inspired you to open your business, If it's appropriate to say something about your company's values, do so.
Make sure there are no typos, and that grammar is correct. Yes, you can take some liberties with copywriting, using your own style and voice, but no boo boos allowed.
Make sure they know where to find you. In addition to any social media links, be sure to include an email address and a phone number. (Yes, some people still pick up the phone.)
It can be intimidating to look at a blank screen and be faced with writing about your company and yourself. Personally, I love nothing more than creating a "brand voice" for clients.
